Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act - Cleared for Implementation

An application for Judical Review of the new Act was rejected on Friday 10th October by the Mr Justice Green sitting in the High Court in London.  

The new legistlation which will require all remote gambling operators offering services to British consumers to obtain a licence from the Gambling Commisison and be subject to the same regulation as British based providers.  In particular any regulatory changes introduced will apply to all those providing online gambling facilities to those in Britain.  The Commission claim the prior to the introduction of the new Act less than 15% of current online providers are currently licensed by the Commission. 

The Commission had earlier announced that the implementation of the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 would be deplayed.  Implemtation, orginally planned for 1st October was delayed until the 1st November to allow the challenge by the Gibraltor Betting & Gaming Association to be considered.

The decision on Friday now clears the way for the introduction of the Act.
